Requiring a responsible person ensures someone will ways receive email reminders as well as helping to keep the information in Store & Track accurate (avoiding the 'garbage in; garbage out' problem of systems that quickly become dumping grounds).

Manage key-person risk

Once you can easily see who is responsible for which documents, you can ask useful questions like, "Does this person have too many documents to manage?".

Checking the list of documents a person is responsible for is also a really useful step to add to your employee exit checklist - suddenly you can be confident that all documents being managed by a departing person will be picked up by someone else.
