Cadence case studies
Learn how other legal teams have used Cadence to improve their legal ops and contracting processes.
100 fewer NDAs to review each year
Before using Cadence, all Confidentiality Agreements required at a large government owned utility company would pass through the in-house legal team.
The in-house team was already busy and had much more important things everyone would have preferred to be working on.
Enter Cadence in 2019 (well our team with an earlier name). We worked with the legal team to develop two automated Confidentiality Agreements (one mutual and one one-way). After some time trialling the system, the automated Confidentiality Agreements was made available to all users in the business.
Since then, the business has been using Cadence to create around 50 to 120 Confidentiality Agreements each year, saving time for business users and the legal team alike.

a good first impression
A government owned utility company (different one!) found it was spending a lot of time preparing employment contracts, both for new starters and for existing employees changing roles.
The in-house legal team had worked with an external law firm to prepare and maintain a set of Word document templates which they were happy with, but it wasn't as easy as it should have been to move responsibility for completing these templates to the HR team.
With Cadence set up, we worked together to reduce the number of templates from seven to three and to produce automated versions with lots of guidance in the online forms for the employment team.
The employment team now produces between 20 and 30 contracts each quarter and the legal team can now 'manage by exception' and spend more of its time on the more complex, less routine matters.

Procurement running at full power
A government owned utility company (again, different one!) found that its legal and procurement teams were spending a lot of time producing a high volume of procurement contracts for acquiring goods, services and construction works.
The teams were finding that the quantity of routine, low-risk, low-value contracts was preventing the team from spending the time they wanted on the interesting, higher-risk, higher-value contracts.
With Cadence switched on and ready, we worked together to first make the drafting between the various templates more consistent. This was aimed at both reducing the automation costs (by allowing for more reusable parts) and to increase the confidence of the lawyers and procurement specialists that the boilerplates in the various contracts operated in the same way.
With the updated drafting in place, we produced automated versions with tailored guidance in the online forms to allow anyone to fill out the forms on their first time, but not so much that it would get in the way of a procurement professional using the forms for the tenth time.
This project only concluded relatively recently, but so far the legal and procurement teams are producing between 50 and 70 contracts through Cadence each quarter.
The next step for this business will be to roll out the automated procurement suite to users in other teams via a Request workflow. With the Request workflow, anyone will be able to fill out the request forms, but only the procurement team will receive a copy of the draft documents created from the forms.

Streamlining legal operations in a retail business with help from ConMoto Group
ConMoto Group, a Hobart-based commercial law firm, uses Cadence to help it provide the best possible legal support to a large Australian online retailer on a monthly retainer basis.
Working with ConMoto Group and the retailer, we have produced automated versions of the retailer's core business & legal documents, including procurement, marketing and supply contracts as well as dispute resolution documents.
ConMoto Group also participates in the retailer's internal approval and electronic signing workflows as well as helping to track key dates in existing contracts.
The retailer has grown substantially over the years we've worked together and is now at a size where other businesses would already have an in-house legal team. However, this business has crunched the numbers and concluded that the ConMoto Group + Cadence combination is the best value for money.
